The Canada Revenue Agency has confirmed that the Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses is now considered non-taxable for all fuel charge years following legislation passed on March 26, 2026.

As part of our ongoing proactive tax review process, Bateman MacKay LLP is reviewing affected corporate tax returns to determine whether amendments may be required.

For corporations that filed before the June 30, 2025, announcement, the government will make an adjustment or reach out for additional information. For corporations that filed after June 30, 2025, an adjustment will need to be requested. More details on this process, including a visual flowchart (below) can be found here.

Where additional action is required, including filing an amendment request, our team will identify impacted clients and assist with the process as needed. If you have any questions regarding how this update may impact your corporation, please contact your Bateman MacKay advisor.
