Position Summary

Bateman Mackay LLP is currently recruiting full-time Staff Accountants (Co-op) to join our Firm for the January-April 2025 work term. This role will be located out of our Burlington OR Mississauga office. This role will have the possibility of a hybrid work schedule following an initial onboarding/training completed in office. The Staff Accountant position will appeal to a strong candidate with a desire to learn and grow their accounting knowledge in a diverse, supportive and welcoming public accounting Firm.

Role Responsibilities

Based on current workflows responsibilities can include:
  • Preparation of Notice to Reader financial statements
  • Assistance in the preparation of Review Engagement financial statements
  • Assistance in the preparation of Audit Engagement financial statements
  • Preparation of working paper files for income tax returns for personal, corporate and trust clients
  • Bookkeeping including preparation or review of investment account reconciliations
  • Maintaining client files to ensure accurate and timely completion of returns and schedules
  • Ensuring follow-up on notices of assessment
  • Providing support to team members in related tasks
At times, business needs arise and Team Members are required and agree to work beyond their normal work day or work week to fulfill the accountabilities and meet deadline.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary Accounting Degree program
  • Interest in pursuing the CPA designation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Dedication and strong work effort
  • Strong team player
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills
  • Strong time-management abilities and self-motivation
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and ensure Partners/Seniors are regularly communicated with in a timely manner on the completion timelines and/or obstacles to completion of projects
  • Excellent computer skills. Strong excel skills required
  • Previous use of Tax Prep, Caseware and Jazz-it programs would be an asset, but not required
  • Strong accounting background, including knowledge of relevant accounting frameworks and file documentation best practices

  • Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check is a requirement of this position;
  • Credit Check is a requirement of this position;
  • Must be legally qualified to work in Canada;
