On March 25th, the Ontario government announced several economic measures to help businesses and individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amongst these is the Support for Families program, which provides a one-time payment of $200 per child under 12 and $250 per child with special needs. All parents are eligible, regardless of income.

Unlike the federal Canada Child Benefit increase, parents must apply for the provincial program. A similar system was used to apply for the Support for Parents program which provided parents with $25 per strike day during the teachers’ strike. If you received a payment under the Support for Parents program, you do not need to reapply. If you selected cheque payment, did not receive a direct deposit payment, or have additional children not yet in school you must reapply and provide the following information.

  • child’s name and birth date
  • child’s school status and school name if applicable
  • parent name, address, email and telephone number
  • direct deposit banking information

Only one parent or guardian may apply for each child and parents/guardians must submit one application per child.
