The Federal Government has announced a proposal to extend the current treatment of furloughed employees under the new Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) by four weeks. This proposal would enable employers who qualify for the CEWS to continue to claim a maximum benefit of $847 per week to subsidize remuneration for each of their furloughed workers through September 26, 2020, instead of the original CEWS cut-off date of August 30, 2020.  More details on how to calculate CEWS for furloughed workers for the program’s remaining periods are expected shortly.  If you have any questions about how this may impact your business and any furloughed employees, please reach out to your Bateman MacKay LLP Account Manager.
