On June 16, the Federal Government announced an eight week extension to the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) eligibility. Previously, eligible applicants could receive $500 a week for a maximum of 16 weeks within the program period of March 15, 2020, and October 3, 2020. Following today’s announced extension, eligible applicants can now receive the CERB for a total of 24 weeks between March 15, 2020, and October 3, 2020. For those who have received the CERB continuously since March 15th, the 24 week eligibility will end August 30, 2020.
The attestation required to receive the CERB will also have stronger language, which encourages Canadians receiving the benefit to find employment and consult The Government of Canada’s Job Bank, our National employment service that offers tools to assist applicants with job searches.
